As a member of the Community Outreach Team at the Missourian I worked to build a relationship with Missourian readers and the community of Columbia, Missouri. My job consisted of:
- writing and scheduling social posts across the Missourian’s various social media accounts using SocialFlow.
- Monitoring website and social analytics
- Covering events using Snapchat or Twitter
- Writing e-newsletters
- Writing the “10 things to do in Columbia this weekend”
I also created a Missourian K-12 Education Facebook group. The goal was to connect more with our K-12 education audience by sharing articles relating to local K-12 education, discuss interesting events happening in Columbia schools and get feedback on the Missourian’s K-12 coverage. Two of my teammates and I visited PTO groups to recruit new members. We also created and held the first Missourian Parental Advisory Group meeting. The goal was to meet quarterly with parents or those interested in K-12 coverage to create a dialogue between schools and our newsroom.
Below are examples of a few of the projects I completed during the semester:
FROM READERS: At TEDxBattle, high school students speak their truth
Columbia lead testing may be misleading; endangered mussels have a hero; Hank Foley to leave MU
COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS: Marriage consent laws
